Illustrations.

The illustrations featured on this page were created to support STEM education, teacher professional development, and public outreach. Each piece is designed to make complex scientific and instructional concepts more accessible and engaging—whether visualizing biological processes like regeneration, highlighting environmental ecosystems, or depicting collaborative teaching and learning. These graphics support curriculum, assessment, and teacher learning tools, helping educators and students connect with science through clear visuals, inclusive representation, and thoughtful design.

Regeneration.

This illustration was designed to show the process of regeneration in a starfish, demonstrating how it gradually regrows lost arms over time. It was used in a test item for a validated assessment of students’ understanding of biological processes and organism survival.

Beakers.

These beaker illustrations were created to show changes in chemical levels in aquatic environments under different biological conditions. They were used in test items for a validated assessment of students’ understanding of photosynthesis, respiration, and the cycling of matter in ecosystems.

Hardbottom Reefs.

This digital illustration depicts a vibrant hardbottom reef ecosystem in Apalachee Bay, highlighting the ecological importance of sponge-dominated habitats. Designed for environmental education and outreach, the image showcases the structural complexity and biodiversity of these underwater reefs. It supports public understanding of Gulf Coast marine ecosystems and the role of hardbottom reefs in enhancing biodiversity.

Cycles of Collaborative Design.

These illustrations were developed for an educational program focused on supporting science teacher learning through collaborative reflection and co-design. The visuals depict teachers analyzing classroom interactions, engaging in peer discussion, and working together to enhance their students’ ability to make sense of science through productive talk. The graphics emphasize collaboration and the iterative nature of teacher learning that drives student-centered science instruction.

Additional graphics were created for use in presentations and outreach materials including student and teacher icons.
